About me
I did my initial surgical training at the Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education & Research in Chandigarh - one of the most prestigious and busy teaching hospitals in India. I qualified as a Paediatric Surgeon in 1993.
I have also worked and carried out research in Australia at one of the world's newest centres of paediatric care, The Children's Hospital at Westmead, Sydney.
I have published much of my research, most notably in the Journal of Paediatric Surgery and Paediatric Surgery International.
I enjoy academia, gaining first place in the Intercollegiate Board of Paediatric Surgery Exam of the Royal College of Surgeons of England, Glasgow, Edinburgh and Ireland.
My research interests include gastro-intestinal problems, especially lower gastro-intestinal. I pioneered the use of pelvic ultrasound for megarectum in chronic idiopathic constipation. In June 2001 I set-up and am now head of the Bastow Laboratory - an investigative unit for Paediatric Clinical Gastro-intestinal Physiology. I have published much of my research, most notably in the Journal of Paediatric Surgery (where I also act as a reviewer) and Paediatric Surgery International.
I have wide-ranging clinical interests including neonatal surgery, gastro-intestinal surgery, trauma management and laparoscopy.
I travel extensively, speaking and presenting at international conferences and often fulfilling visiting professorship roles.
Outside of surgery I have a strong interest in management. I have just completed a MBA at Warwick University.
I enjoy sports. Although my days of competitive hockey are over I still enjoy keeping myself fit.
I am married with two daughters.
